Academy of Fine Arts of Jiamusi University, a new and stylish Institute was established on November 5, 2003 to meet the needs of times and to train artists for society. Academy of Fine Arts has gone through 4 stages of development, namely, Arts Department of Jiamusi Normal College, Arts Department of Institutes of Education of Jiamusi University, Arts Department of Arts Institute of Jiamusi University, and Academy of Fine Arts of Jiamusi University. Through 13 years of development, it has housed a diverse pool of artistic talent, a distinctive structure integrating theory and practice, focuses on human care and social needs, and combines modern technical and cultural disciplines with traditional artistic ones. The institute features the study of theories of fine arts, and new media, which constitute the humanities and reflects the Chinese national spirits and creative theories of the times.
    Academy of Fine Arts includes Arts Education Department, Painting Department, Art Design Department, Theories of Fine Arts Department, General Office, Education and Scientific Research Office, and Students Office. And there are 7 Teaching and Research Sections under its jurisdiction: Basic Section of Arts Education Department, Chinese Painting Section of Arts Education Department, Oil Painting Section of Painting Department, Watercolor Section of Painting Department, Basic Section of Art Design Department, Art Design Section of Art Design Department, Basic Section of Theories of Fine Arts Department. There is a wide range of courses to offer at undergraduate level including Master of Fine Arts, Painting, Art Design, Engraving, Interior Design, Decorative Art Design, Photography, Sculpture, Comic and Animation, at postgraduate level including Master of Fine Arts.
    Academy of Fine Arts has a strong and professional faculty. There are 96 teaching and administrative staff by now. Among them, 82 are professional teachers, including 3 professors, 10 associate professors, 18 lecturers, and 5 teachers have got master degree or higher, and 23 are graduate students. In addition, there are 2 members of China Artist Association, 20 members of Heilongjiang Chapter of China Artist Association. The famous teaching master, Professor Yang Zixun, is a member of Heilongjiang Artist Association, the chief of Jiamusi Artist Association. His works are selected into the National Art Exhibition three times in succession, and have won prizes many times.
    Academy of Fine Arts has a dense academic atmosphere and made outstanding achievements in teaching and research. The teachers have published 9 monographs and more than 50 essays in a variety of leading publications. In the last few years, Academy of Fine Arts has taken part in and fulfilled more than 20 national, provincial, municipal and university's research projects. The works have won prizes many times at all levels, including 24 national prizes, 41 provincial prizes, and 62 students' works are selected into all kinds of art exhibitions.
    With an area of 8,000 square meters, the Academy of Fine Arts is complete in infrastructures and fine in the conditions for running a institute, being equipped with 38  Professional Studios, 2 Multimedia Classrooms, 13 Daylight Studios, 2 Computer Laboratories, and several Photographic Studios, Engraving Laboratories, Art Design Laboratories, which can meet the demands of teachers and students for teaching, scientific research and study basically.
