    Founded in 1999, the College of Humanities (CH) of Jiamusi University (JU) was a merger of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Department of Politics and the Department of History of the former Jiamusi Teacher's College. Up till now, it has become one of the colleges of liberal arts of JU which has more distinctive features in teacher training and is larger in scale. Since its establishment, based on Heilongjiang Province and catering to the whole country, CH has educated a lot of high-quality and applied talents with solid foundation of their specialties, wide-ranging knowledge and strong ability of adaptability and innovation for the career of general education and the local economic development.
    CH has three departments: the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Department of Politics and the Department of History. There are 6 specialties granting bachelor's degree under the departments: the Specialty of Chinese Language and Literature (Normal Education Orientation), the Specialty of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, the Specialty of Ideological and Political Education, the Law Specialty and the Specialty of History (Normal Education Orientation). Under CH, there are 8 research institutes and offices: the Research Institute of and Political Education, the Research Institute of Historical-biography Literature, the Research Institute of Historical Culture of the Sanjiang Region, the Research Institute of Sciences in Literature and Art, the Research Institute of Applied Language, the Research Institute of Curricula and Teaching Theories, the Research Office of Modern & Contemporary Chinese Literature and the Research Office of Foreign Literature. CH has 14 teaching and research offices, 1 JU key specialty (Chinese Language and Literature), 2 JU key disciplines, (Chinese Language and Literature with Normal Education Orientation and Special History), 1 provincial key course (Writing), 1 JU elite course (Writing) and 3 JU key courses (Chinese Ancient History, Chinese Ancient Literature and Logic) and 9 CH key courses. The reference rooms of CH have a collection of 8378 books of various kinds, 1242 discs of audio and visual materials. There are 2 teaching and practical bases: the Simulation Court and the Office Automation Laboratory at CH.
    CH has 94 members on the teaching and administrative staff, among whom, 82 are full-time teachers. There are 8 professors (of which, 3 are supervisors of postgraduates), 34 associate professors and 36 lecturers. On the teaching staff, 3 have doctor's degree, 5 studying for their doctor's degree, 31 having master's degree, 11 studying for their master's degree. Many of them have been awarded "Excellent Educational Workers of Heilongjiang Province", "Excellent Teachers of Heilongjiang Province", "Excellent Party Members of Heilongjiang Province", "Ten Optimal Teachers of JU", "Talented Teachers of JU"and Single Prizes for Teaching of JU.
    There are 1297 students from all over China studying at CH. CH has been deepening its teaching reforms and endeavoring to improve the education quality of talents. Consequently, the students' integrated quality and their ability to be employed have been improving. Since its establishment, CH has educated 3486 students with bachelor's or associate degrees. Among whom, 205 went to study for their master's degrees at famous universities like Peoples University, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University and Jilin University.
    In recent five years, the teachers have been undertaking 132 projects on teaching research and scientific research. Among which, 1 is national project; 36 are provincial projects. CH teachers have published 315 papers in total. Of which, 31 papers are published in core periodicals. They have won 40 scientific and research achievements of municipal level, departmental level and provincial level. The teachers of CH have published 32 academic monographs and textbooks (including complied books used nation-wide).
At present, the members of CH are studying the Scientific Development Concept and implementing it in practice. Adhering to the idea of "existing with teaching", "prospering with scientific research" and "strengthening itself with talents", the college centers on teaching and emphasizing scientific research and construction of disciplines, and is active in innovating its talents-educating model, improving its education and teaching quality, and developing roundly, harmoniously and sustainably. CH is struggling for its goal of building first-class college of liberal arts with distinctive features and making greater contribution to the growth of regional economics and the development of society.

The Specialty of Chinese Language and Literature
with Normal Education Orientation
The Specialty of Chinese Language and Literature with Normal Education Orientation (SCLLNEO) is one of the specialties of College of Humanities with longer history. This major is dedicated to the training of all-round and high-quality talents with innovative ideas and pioneering spirits, aiming to educate secondary school teachers of Chinese for fundamental education who are fully developed in morality, intelligence, physical and aesthetics education.
    Among its full-time teachers, there are 5 professors, 24 associate professors, 16 lecturers and 6 assistants, of which, 20 teachers have master's degree and 2 having doctor's degree.
    In recent years, the faculty has gain substantial achievements for search. The faculty has been undertaking 1 provincial project,more than 10 departmental-level projects, 5 New Century Education Reform Projects and has published more than 10 academic monographs, textbooks, and more than 100 academic papers.
    Its main courses include Pedagogy, Psychology, Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Introduction to Linguistics, Logic, Writing, Introduction to Literature, Aesthetics, History of Ancient Chinese Literature, History of Foreign Literature, Comparative Literature & World Literature, Middle School Chinese Teaching Methodology and the Study of Middle School Chinese Textbooks.
   This specialty is a program of 4 years. When students accomplish the required courses, they will be granted BAs.

The Specialty of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language
    The training objective of the Specialty of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (STCFL) is to cultivate foreign-oriented and applied talents with solid foundation of Chinese and stronger communicative ability in foreign languages who are qualified for TCFL and cross-cultural communication.
    The specialty curricula of STCFL are divided into three parts: Chinese courses including Sino-foreign Literature and Culture, TCFL Theories and Teaching Methodology;English and Second Foreign Language.
    With the integration of teaching resources of the whole university, STCFL has perfect teaching facilities and qualified teaching staff presently. Among the full-time teachers,there are 7 professors,28 associate professors and 17 lecturers .
This specialty is a 4-year program. When students accomplish the required courses, they will be granted BAs.

The Specialty of Chinese Language and Literature
    The training objective of the Specialty of Chinese Language and Literature (SCLL) is to cultivate senior Chinese talents with good humanities spirits, better morality, solid specialty theories and skills qualified for office work, secretarial work, press and media work.
    Among the full-time teachers of SCLL, there are 5 professors, 24 associate professors, 16 lectures and 6 assistants. 20 of them have master's degree and 2 have doctor's degree.
    In recent years, the faculty has gain substantial achievements for search. The faculty has been undertaking 1 provincial project, more than 10 department-level projects, 5 Provincial Teaching-reform Projects of the New Century. The teachers have published over 10 textbooks and academic monographs and more than 100 academic papers.
Its main courses include Pedagogy, Psychology, Modern Chinese, Ancient Chinese, Introduction to Linguistics, Logic, Writing, Introduction to Literature, Introduction to Aesthetics, History of Ancient Chinese Literature, History of Foreign Literature, Comparative Literature & World Literature, News Publicity, Modern Secretarial Science and Office Automation.
    This specialty is a 4-year program. When students accomplish the required courses, they will be granted BAs.

Department of Politics and Laws
    The Specialty of Ideological and Political Education
    The objective of this specialty is to cultivate qualified teachers and all sorts of talents with professional knowledge of political theories, laws, economic and administrations, who are capable of meeting the demands of reform and opening up policy, and the development of socialist market economy. They are all-round talents fully developed in morality, intelligence and PE, possessing solid fundamental knowledge of theories and their specialties, basic skills and ability of self-cultivation and creativity.
There are 15 full-time teachers on the teaching staff. Of which, there are 4 professors, 4 associate professors and 7 lecturers. 10 have master's degree and 1 study for obtaining it.
    The main courses of this specialty include Political Science, Pedagogy, Marxist Philosophy, Political economics, Introduction to Laws, Ethics, Introduction to Mao Zedong's Thought, World Political Economy & International Relations, Selected Readings in Marxist Classics, Deng Xiaoping's Theory, History of Sino-foreign Philosophy, History of Economic Theories, Teaching Theories of Ideological and Political Course in Secondary School and Public Relations.
    This specialty is a program of 4 years. When students accomplish the required courses, they will be granted LLB or bachelor's degree of education.

The Specialty of Laws
    The objective of this specialty is to cultivate senior applied talents who are competent for their work after graduation in organs of state power, administration, judiciary or legal service work in lawyer's offices, notary offices, enterprises and public institutions, and senior professionals engaging in teaching & research of laws at institutions of higher education and institutions of scientific research. They are all-round talents fully developed in morality, intelligence and PE, meeting the demand of our socialist construction, having a good command of the knowledge of laws, and mastering the laws and legislations of China.
    There are 12 full-time teachers on the teaching staff. Of which, there are 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 6 lecturers and 1 assistant. 4 have master's degree and 3 study for obtaining it.
    The main courses of this specialty include Jurisprudence, Constitution, Legal History, Criminal Jurisprudence, Law of Criminal Procedure, Science of Civil Law, Intellectual Property Law, Law of Civil Procedure, Administrative Law & Administrative Litigation Law, Economic law, International Law, International Private Law, International Economic Law, Commercial Law, contract law and a large number of teaching-related practical activities.
This specialty is a program of 4 years. When students accomplish the required courses, they will be granted LLB or bachelor's degree of education.

The Specialty of History with Normal Education Orientation
    The objective of History Specialty with Normal Education Orientation (HSNEO) is to cultivate teachers, researchers in teaching and other educational workers with fundamental theories and knowledge of history, who are qualified for secondary education and higher education.
    HSNEC has 17 full-time teachers. Of which, 1 has doctor's degree, 2 study for their doctor's degree, 6 have master's degree and 2 study for their master's degree. On the teaching staff, there are 3 professors, 6 associate professors and 8 lecturers. This specialty has a professional and academic team which is reasonable in the structures of their learning experience, professional title and age.
    HSNEC offers over 50 courses such as Ancient Chinese History, Modern Chinese History, Contemporary Chinese History, The History of PRC, History of Chinese Thoughts, History of Chinese Economy, Introduction to Books on Chinese History and Selective Readings, General Theories of Traditional Chinese Culture, World Ancient History, Medieval World History, Modern World History, Contemporary World History, Introduction to Historical Science, History Teaching Theories, History of Chinese History and History of   Western Culture. Ancient Chinese History is a key course of JU.
    After 30 years' development, the teachers in HSNEC have made great progresses both in teaching and academic research. They have published nearly 20 books such as "Study on the History & Culture of He Zhen Minority", "Introduction to Traditional Chinese Culture", "The History of PRC", "The Local History of Heilongjiang Province", "World Modern and Contemporary Civilization", "Study on Ancient Greek Myths", " Guidance Reading to Masterpieces of Traditional Chinese Culture" and so on. Over 100 papers are published in journals like "China Ethnic News", "The Northern Forum", "Heilongjiang Social Sciences", "Journal of Hebei University", "Guangxi Social Sciences", "Journal of Social Science of Jiamusi University". They have been undertaking nearly 40 research projects of school-level, local municipal-level and province-level.
    This specialty is a program of 4 years. Students who finish their credits required by JU and meet bachelor's requirements will be granted bachelor's degree of history.
