School of Architecture and Engineering was founded in 1986. Its preexistence is the Specialty of Industrial and Civil Construction, which was transformed into the Faculty of Architecture(under the direct control of Jiamusi University) in 2002, and then was transformed into the institute of Architecture and Engineering in 2006. The institute has two specialties: civil engineering and architecture, and has laboratories such as measurement, building material, soil, hydraulic, structure laboratory, and computer center with advanced equipments and instruments such as Total Station, GPS Locator and Freeze-thaw cycle machine. The institute covers an area approximating 1200m2 and possesses experimental equipment valued at over 6 million yuan.
    The faculty force is strong and professional. There are 36 faculty members, including 19 professors or associate professors and 17 with intermediate title and other title, among which 14 are postgraduates.  The teachers here are "Double-certificated Teachers", among whom 3 are State Registered Engineers, 3 are Registered Construction Supervisors, 2 are Registered Construction Engineers, and 1 is Registered Economist. So far, they have published 200 academic theses in domestic academic journals, edited more than 10 state-level textbooks, and has undertaken more than 30 provincial-level research projects.
   The institute makes incessant efforts to strengthen the Party building and ideological and political work, promotes such activities as "striving to become the Five" and "Five Competitions and Four Enterings", and firmly sets up the senses of "the Three Services". Moreover, The institute has established the overall way of thinking, which has brought about obvious effects on the work centering around teaching, "the Three Constructions", and the enforcement of "the Five Skills". The teachers here have won a number of the Excellent Teaching Achievement awards and other awards or titles including "Distinguished Teacher", "Pacesetter in Moral Cultivation", "Pacesetter in striving to become the Five", "Master-hand in teaching","Excellent Teachers in Class", "Technical Expert" of municipal level as well as the honorary title "Excellent Teaching Unit" of the university. For several consecutive years, the employment rate of students remains at 100 percent. In recent years, the Institute has actively carried out academic activities and internal and external communication, has invited specialists and scholars from inside and outside the university to give lectures, and has successfully hosted the sixth meeting of the 1st Session of China's Ordinary Higher Education Architectural Teaching Committee.
    Under the leadership of the Party Committee of our university and with the joint efforts of all the teachers and students, the institute continues to hold high the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory and comprehensively implement the spirit of the 17th National Party Congress. In accordance with the requirements and deployments of the university Party committee, the whole institute, determined, enterprising and innovative, unite as one and lay emphasis on solid work so as to constantly open up a new situation in education and teaching management. They are trying to make new and greater contributions to the local economic development and the development of Jiamusi University.

1. Training Objectives:This specialty targets at cultivating advanced technical talents who have the basic knowledge and theories of  various types of civil engineering disciplines and are expert at planning, design, construction, management and research with regard to the fields of housing construction, underground construction (including mine construction), roads, tunnels, bridge construction, hydroelectric power stations, ports, offshore structure and facilities, water supply and drainage, and foundation treatment.
